I recently read something interesting in The Daily Stat. Not that I needed a study to confirm, but new research suggests that shopping really does make you feel better. According to a recent study, shopping can improve your mood or disposition. All of the shoppers in a research sample said they had bought themselves a treat during the past week—ranging from a fishing reel to a kitchen magnet—and 62% of the treat purchases were motivated by a desire to repair a bad mood. So what do you think? Have you ever felt better after a trip to the mall?

You know what else is proven to lift your spirits? Helping others. Be sure to clean out your drawers and donate your gently used bras to support women in need. And don’t forget to enter our Bra Guessing Contest for a chance to win a $500 Soma gift card!

We had a great team on the Plaza at “The Today Show” this morning spreading the word about Soma’s Bra Donation.  We even got a “thumbs up” from Ann Curry herself!

What’s more, Kathie Lee and Hoda Kotb got in on the action by donating the bras off their backs (literally).

By now, you’ve all heard the statistic that 80% of women are wearing the wrong size bra. But did you know it’s estimated that our bra size will change six times throughout the course of our lives? This is a result of hormonal fluctuations, pregnancy, weight gain or loss, aging, or breast surgery. That’s why it’s so important to get a professional bra fitting every six months! At Soma, most commonly, we see women wearing too big of a band and too small of a cup. Wearing the right size and style of bra can instantly help you look thinner and more proportioned. It can improve your posture, and your mood, because when you look better, you FEEL better!

To help you choose the right styles for your bra wardrobe, we’ve launched a new series of videos on Soma.com. The first three speak to Minimizers, Push Ups, and Full Coverage bras. I’d love to hear from you and know what other videos you’d like to see. Simply post your recommendations to the comments section below.

I’m so excited to announce our “Giving is Beautiful” bra donation initiative. We’re once again collecting new and gently used bras for women in need at all of our Soma Intimates boutiques. Bras are one of the least-donated but most-needed items for women who are struggling financially, and we want to help!

What I love most about this initiative is that it directly impacts the community where you donate. Each Soma boutique works with women’s shelters and other charities in its own region to help women in need in that area. What’s more, any non-wearable donations are sent to The Bra Recyclers, a textile recycling organization that ensures that no bra ends up in a landfill!

This is our third bra drive, and so far we’ve collected more than 68,000 bras for charity. We want to double that by next year, so get out there and donate! You have until August 14th to drop off your bras, and if you can’t get to a Soma boutique, you can also mail them. Visit www.soma.com/givebras for details.

To kick off this bra donation campaign, we’re challenging you to guess how many bras we’ll collect and donate between now and August 14th. It’s easy to enter – simply click here. The closest guess wins a $500 Soma Gift Card!
