I recently received two similar reader questions:
- The back of my bra always rides up. What should I do?
- My bras won’t stay put in back. They always ride up causing lines and bulges in the back and reducing lift in front. Am I buying the wrong bra, wrong size or what?
First and foremost, make sure you’re wearing the right size and style bra! Approach bra buying like you would if you were buying a pair of shoes – trying a variety of sizes and styles is the best way to get a gauge on fit, look and feel. Being properly fit in a Soma boutique by a trained fit expert will ensure that you find a great bra. If you can’t visit a Soma boutique, I recommend using our bra fit guide on Soma.com.
The band, not the straps, is actually what gives you the most support. With that said, your bra band should be snug, yet comfortable, and stay put when you lift up your arms. You should be able to fit one finger under the band and it should be level all the way around your body.
Your band will hike up if it’s too loose. Think about it. If your band rides up in the back, then your cups come down in the front and that’s when you notice your breasts sagging. If your band is too tight, it can dig into the skin and actually create the appearance of dreaded “back fat” by causing lines and bulges in the back and on your sides.
I hope this helps!

Jessica

My bras curl up at the sides and ride up at the back. I have been sized several times and am a 38DDD. I am very shortwaisted. I buy good bras – Somas and Wacoal. Any ideas? Thanks D
